Physiotherapy is all about improving your quality of life. As physios, we're health professionals who are here for your sports injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, as well as other chronic conditions. We're your health care team member who provides pain relief via hands-on treatment as well as prescription of exercise programs.
Experienced physiotherapists like us at PridePlus Health are able to facilitate you in achieving your health and wellbeing goals for a wide variety of injuries and issues. You might have been in a motor vehicle accident and need more regular assistance. Or you might be struggling with jaw pain or neck pain associated with poor posture from your workstation set up. Whatever your injury or challenge, we're your passionate physio group who will be there to guide you to your goals.
Physiotherapy covers a wide variety of injuries and conditions. We see a range of aches and pains due to poor posture, imbalance or over-doing it on the field or in the backyard. We also see severe injuries as a result of workplace accidents, car accidents or other severe kinds of trauma.
Chronic conditions are another reason to come to your physio to get a treatment program that will allow you to overcome your barriers and improve your quality of life.
Expect to be the centre of attention when you seek physiotherapy care and PridePlus Health. Initially, we'll sit down with you and listen to what is happening, what's sore, what the impact on your life is. From there we'll be working with you to test and assess the causes of your pain or problem. After this your treatment plan will be developed together and which will facilitate your journey onto the goals you want to achieve.
As part of your treatment, you and your physio might decide that joint manipulation, hands-on therapy or massage is needed. It might be that some imaging is required which your physiotherapist can refer you for. Or a discussion with other members of your health team to investigate a chronic condition.
Whatever pathway you and your physio decide on, you can expect to be firmly in control of your outcomes as you work to get there together.
To practice as a physiotherapist in Australia you must hold a relevant degree (bachelors, masters or doctorate) in physiotherapy and registered with AHPRA. The Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency is the body that ensures all physios (as well as doctors, nurses and other allied health practitioners) are qualified and up to date with the latest evidence.
The field of physiotherapy is quite broad and there are specialisations once you become a physio. Being APA titled as a Musculoskeletal physiotherapist is recognition of a high level of achievement. Joint pain, musculoskeletal pain from either chronic injuries or a traumatic injury all come under the banner of being a musculoskeletal physiotherapist.
Physio treatments are considered allied health services in Australia which means that there are a few options that influence your out of pocket costs of physiotherapy. The cost of a session in our Pascoe Vale physiotherapy centre is $90 for a 30-minute session. For those with private health insurance, we have on the spot claiming with HICAPs so you'll only pay the gap (much less than the $90 for most with coverage).
If you're referred under a medicare care plan from your GP then you'll receive a rebate of around $55.10 at the time of writing for each session. We're also conscious of the challenges with seeking primary care physiotherapy as we age and are on the pension so if you are a pensioner we offer a $15 discount for each session.
If you're undertaking an exercise program and joining our small group exercise classes then the cost of these 45-minute sessions is $20. Again, rebates are available for private health insurance.
Veterans via the department of veterans affairs as well as those funded under the NDIS are not out of pocket (bulk billed) provided you have active referrals and funding available. If you'd like to find out more about this our contact details are at the top (and bottom) of this page.
Foot pain is extremely complex and getting a specific foot injury diagnosis is the domain of a podiatrist. Physios do play an important role in the treatment of factors that contribute to foot pain or heel pain in the form of assessment of the hip, glutes and knee area. Usually, if there is complex foot pain impacting your lifestyle the best first point of contact is your podiatrist who can then work with you and advise on the need for further physio testing and interventions.

Our Pascoe Vale physiotherapists may recommend a treatment plan which includes:
- Exercise Physiologists for whole-body health improvements with exercise.
- Podiatrists to provide expert assessment and load management in lower limb cases.
Each session with a physiotherapist will be different as it will be tailored to the specific needs of the patient.
- There will be a thorough and open conversation between the patient and the therapist to first gain an understanding of their issue(s). This is a major benefit of seeing a physiotherapist as they have time to really discuss the finer details.
- This will be followed by an assessment of multiple things which may include movement, strength, function, palpation and pain, in order to identify pain/injury/movement issues. Sometimes this can result in a specific diagnosis (e.g. a hamstring strain). Other times, the physiotherapist may not be able to give you a specific structural cause, but will be able to talk you through the contributing factors to your issue (e.g. non specific mechanical low back pain).
Physiotherapy treatment will involve developing a plan to achieve personal goals.
This will involve:
- Educating the patient
- Prescribing exercises
- Lifestyle advice/modification
- Indicated hands-on treatment
Depending on your issue, your PridePlus Health physiotherapist may book a follow-up appointment soon after, or can send you away to work on your program with a review a few weeks down the track.
Our highly-trained and experienced physiotherapy specialists are also here to help you learn about your body and will use evidence-based techniques so you can achieve your goals.
Sometimes this involves careful manipulation of joints and muscles to facilitate tissue repair. Sometimes it’s learning and completing the right exercises to enhance, grow and recover.
Other times, it will encompass education and learning about the various processes which go on inside our bodies every day which contribute to pain and loss of performance.
