Our PridePlus podiatrists will firstly go over your medical history with you. This includes things such as family history, past surgeries, current medications, health habits and medical habits. We will also examine your lower leg and foot, check for strength, circulation and sensation.
After the examination, your PridePlus podiatrist will recommend the appropriate treatment, dependent on the problem. In some cases, podiatrists recommend lifestyle changes, which may include weight loss. Losing weight can take the strain off of the foot. We could also recommend walking more, as walking can increase circulation in the foot. Additionally, if you have diabetes, then we may recommend that you manage it with diet and exercise.
Your PridePlus podiatrist will work with others in your treating team, be it another allied health professional like an Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist, your GP or surgeon to get the best outcomes.
Treatments that podiatrists might recommend are strength and conditioning rehabilitation, padding and strapping, footwear changes, inserts or orthotics, activity changes and much more. In some cases, you may need to be referred to another specialist, for example, if you have circulation problems, then you may be referred to as vascular specialist or you may also have to get surgery if necessary.
